Jersey Farming Conference - Farming Matters

at La Mare Wine Estate (and on-line) on Friday 10th November 2023

There is no denying that it’s still an extremely challenging time for farmers. Farming is not an easy task, as the consequences of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, climate change bringing droughts and flooding, and new obligations are all having a growing impact on farmers' work and incomes. Increases in the minimum wage means that rising labour costs are adding a further significant burden with many farmers having to think hard about their future in the industry. Government must work together with the men and women in farming to tackle these challenges.

Food security, in harmony with nature, remains an essential task – producing healthy food is the foundation of agricultural policy. Many farmers are already working towards a more sustainable form of agriculture. That is the only way to secure the supply of food for the future.

This year’s conference, more than ever, is the time to bring together the farming industry and government to find out how they see that future looking and to discuss how much farming really matters to the island.

The Jersey Farming Conference is being organised by Farm Jersey with funding from the Government of Jersey. The conference is being sponsored by Jersey Water with the mid-morning session being sponsored by local accountancy, investment management and tax specialists, Evelyn Partners and the locally sourced lunch being sponsored by Normans Agriculture.

The conference has been recognised by both NRoSO (National Register of Sprayer Operators) where attendees will receive 2 (two) point and by BASIS who are awarding 4 (four) CPD points to attendees in their scheme.
