Andrew Le Gallais MBE

Chairman, Jersey Milk Marketing Board

Andrew is chairman of the Jersey Milk Marketing Board and has been a member of the Board since 1987, the year he took over the ownership of the Roseland herd from his father John together with the operation of the dairy farm at Cowley Farm, Maufant, St Saviour. Since then, he has invested significantly in the business to create modern facilities for the 225 cow herd, which celebrated its centenary last year. He is immensely fortunate to be supported by his wife Loraine, together with a very loyal and professional team on the farm.

Andrew is passionate about the role of our pedigree Jersey Cow in her Island Home, exemplified not just as the source of unique quality milk to Jersey Dairy, but also as a positive contributor to the rich biodiversity of our countryside, epitomised as ‘brown cows grazing our green fields’, thus adding value to the marketing of her dairy products processed by Jersey Dairy. Above all, she continues to reign as our genuine Island icon, ‘flying the flag’ for the provenance of top quality, tangible products globally.

Philip Cosgrave

Grassland Agronomist, Yara UK

Growing up on the family beef and sheep farm in Ireland, Philip completed a degree in animal science at the University of Aberdeen before returning back to Ireland to complete an MSc at UCD in Dublin. There was an opportunity to travel and with his keen interest in agriculture, he soon found himself working within the industry in Italy, New Zealand, Australia and Saudi Arabia. The experience of working in different and often harsh environments sparked an interest in crop nutrition and how healthy soils play an important role in good crops.

Since returning home Philip has worked as an agronomist and has been Yara’s grassland agronomist since 2016, having worked previously with IAS Laboratories. The concept of nutrient use efficiency is one that is key in Philip’s mind. By improving nutrient use efficiency we see benefits for the farmer and the environment. His role in Yara sees him working closely with farmers across the UK and Ireland.

Philip is a FACTS qualified advisor and also holds a Certificate in Crop Nutrition Management from Teagasc.
