Normans are extremely proud to be sponsors of the Jersey Farming Conference 2023.

Agriculture has been at the heart of Normans business since it was established in 1840 by John Norman, a cooper, who supplied local traders in the Newfoundland cod industry with watertight casks. In 1864 with the development of the new potato traffic with England a thriving business as a potato merchant and packaging supplier began.

As business grew, fertiliser and other products were being sold. The primary interest though was still in packaging and in 1904 Normans devised the first non-returnable package, a veneer basket holding 12Ibs, for the export of tomatoes.

The dedicated Agriculture Department has remained an integral part of farming life on the island ever since.

As farming, food production and the environment around the world continue to see many changes and challenges, the processes involved in agriculture continue to evolve.

Being an island, we are presented with some unique opportunities, and together with our local community of growers and producers, we look forward to the future and the innovations and developments that collectively can be brought to fruition.
